Frequently Asked Questions
What is fyle and what can it do?
fyle is a secure, offline document management app that helps you scan, upload, categorize, and set reminders for important documents like insurance papers, academic records, vehicle documents, and more. It extracts key information using on-device processing and keeps you notified about upcoming expiry or renewal dates.
Is an internet connection required to use fyle?
No. fyle works completely offline. All your data, including scanned documents and reminders, is stored locally on your device and never sent to external servers.
Where is my data stored?
All data is securely stored locally on your device using Apple’s Core Data framework. No documents or personal information are uploaded to the cloud or shared with third parties.
How is my privacy protected?
We do not collect, track, or analyze your data. The app functions without requiring login or internet access. Permissions are only used when absolutely necessary, and all disclosures are transparently listed in our Privacy Policy.
Can I recover my documents if I uninstall the app?
No. Uninstalling fyle permanently deletes all locally stored data. Please ensure you export or back up important documents before uninstalling the app.
How does document sharing work in fyle?
You can share documents via Apple’s system share sheet or use Multipeer Connectivity (offline peer-to-peer) to share with nearby fyle users. No data passes through online servers during this process.
Does fyle support cloud backups or syncing across devices?
Currently, fyle does not support cloud syncing. All documents remain on the device they were added to. Cloud backup and encrypted sync features may be considered for future updates.
Can I mark a document as confidential?
While we treat all files as private and store them locally, fyle offers an option to mark a document as confidential. Confidential documents are not processed by our ML models and stay completely untouched beyond storage.
Why does fyle need camera, photo, and file access?
Camera: To scan and upload physical documents.
Photos: To import document images from your library.
Files: To allow importing PDFs or files from your device or cloud sources.
All imported data stays local and is not accessed beyond your selection.
How do reminders work in fyle?
When a document includes an expiry or renewal date, fyle sets a local reminder (by default, 30 days before the due date). You can view, edit, or delete these reminders from the Reminders tab.
